Porcelain is a large format type of ceramic that's heavier, denser, completely waterproof, and most appropriate for heavily trafficked surfaces. Use them indoors or outside on patio and deck floors or poolside; they stand up to weather.
Ceramic tile, especially when glazed, has a tough hard exterior. They come in a range of sizes from 12 X 12 to 18 X 18. We usually know them as squares, but they come in all shapes, from round to oval to rectangle and more.
Mosaics are small (sometimes ½ X ½), highly decorative pieces that can be ceramic, glass, or a combination of both, with other materials such as stone or metal. They come in any shape or size. They come either mounted on a mesh background for easier installation or separately.
A mosaic gives any room a lavish look, whether it's a bathroom spa, a flooring medallion, or an intricate Waterjet Design. Glass tiles come from recycled glass that's then handcrafted into various shapes. They have a reflective quality and are usually used as accent pieces.
All of these tiles are durable and easy to clean. Installation is laborious. The material, itself, is heavy and layout can be complicated; if a mistake is made, there’s no going back. It also requires special tools, such as trowels and saws.
